Based on a 500-year chronology of struggles for global peace and equality, it interjects the unrecorded contributions of women throughout history. Using the metaphor and symbolic structural device of weaving, this film whirls us through a visual poem like a spindle flying through layers of thread, telling us something of the cultural and political histories of communities under attack. But Some are Brave is a tribute to the old and earthly connections we have to those who have gone before us, as well as the determination to continue to dream and envision bravely.

Le Chat Noir Tristan Convert 0:14:00 SHORT France le_rlu@hotmail.fr And then came, as if to my final and irrevocable overthrow, the spirit of perversness. Of this spirit philosophy takes no account. Yet I am not more sure that my soul lives, than I am that perverseness is one of the primitive impulses of the human heart ǃÓone of the indivisible primary faculties, or sentiments, which give direction to the character of Man. Who has not, a hundred times, found himself committing a vile or a silly action, for no other reason than because he knows he should not? Have we not a perpetual inclination, in the teeth of our best judgment, to violate that which is Law, merely because we understand it to be such? This spirit of perverseness, I say, came to my final overthrow. It was this unfathomable longing of the soul to vex itself, to offer violence to its own nature to do wrong for the wrong's sake only that urged me to continue and finally to consummate the injury I had inflicted upon the unoffending brute.' Pechatnik off Alley, 3 Yevgeniy Vaskevich 0:39:23 SHORT Russian Federation zheka@mac.com Over the last fifteen years, more historically significant buildings were destroyed in Moscow than during the time of the Soviet regime since Stalin's grand reconstruction project of 1934. One of the last streets to stand this 'reconstruction' was Pechatnikoff Lane.  It contains a courtyard which was believed by many to be the Heart of Moscow, a place so beautiful and tender that it could have easily housed a door to Heaven. That door that was set for demolition. According to the Christian tradition, people who die on the Easter day go straight to Heaven. But where do the buildings go? Pechatnik off Alley, 3 is about one of the last streets of old Moscow which is about to be destroyed by urban overdevelopment in this country. One man tries to document the street's last days, but finds himself having to face the issues of his own life and death.  This dark comedy contrasts the remnants of the old-fashioned Moscow aura with the corrupt spirit of contemporary Russia. Umbrella Catherine Tyc 0:09:41 SHORT USA cat_tyc@hotmail.com Umbrella is a story about a woman who is about to have an abortion. The film is explores a deep symbolism, and is an adaptation of Fernando Sorrentino's short story There's A Man in the Habit of Hitting Me Over the Head with an Umbrella. The film maker draws off her friends' and her own experiences with wanting pregnancy, avoiding pregnancy, as well as her own feelings about pregnancy and children in general.  The film maker hopes to explore the subject of how an abortion affects two people through this film. The umbrella is a metaphor, not only for what an individual has to deal with when the prospect of parenthood arises but also for the hits that society deals to those who have abortions and to those who perform them. This film is less about how and why they should be safe and legal and more an attempt to explore how the current state of the economy as well as contemporary gender politics, adding even more complexity to an already complex situation heavily laden with the most deepest of intimacy, hormones and intense spiritual questioning.
