Equiano in Africa
Jason Young | 10 min (UK, 2008) Short Film
Written and Produced by Jason Young

The story of the childhood of Olaudah Equiano in Benin between 1745-55 based upon his book, 'The Interesting Narrative of Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavas Vassa, the African'. A tribute to the African abolitionist, who campaigned alongside William Wilberforce and Thomas Clarkson for the abolition of the slave trade act. He didn’t live to see the 1807 abolition bill go through, but his only surviving daughter, Joanna Vassa, did. This film follows on from the 2007 Bicentenary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act. Narrated by Jason Young.

Filmmaker's Comment: I created this documentary because I believe that there should be a feature film on Olaudah Equiano following on from the 2007 Bicentenary of the 1807 Abolition of the Slave Trade Act.

Erasmusspitzen, Crossing A Bridge On Points
Noud Heerkens | 9 min (Netherlands, 1999) short
Choreography by Pascal Rekoert
Written by Noud Heerkens, Nathalie Alonso Casale
Produced by Picos D'Europa

'Erasmusspitzen, Crossing A Bridge On Points' is a
dance film about three businessmen. Two men and a woman walk on points
across a bridge to the other side of the river. Who is the first to cross
the bridge? On the other side, in Rotterdam's Kop van Zuid, a career
beckons. They talk about soccer, the weather, their wives etc.
The film addresses the absurdity of point shoes and business attire. Us
humans believe in categorizing ourselves. We tend to forget it is a
great thing to broaden one's horizons and be playful.

Filmmaker's Comment: I recently watched this film again, which I made in
collaboration with Picos DÕEuropa. It was a project, which was a huge
undertaking. The Rotterdam bridge is one of two roads connecting the harbor
to the center of town, which was closed off for our film crew and
captains were bribed into rerouting their ships to be able to film the
bottom part of the bridge, only to name a few examples... I am proud to have
been part of this creative venture.

Escape From Mars
Pascal Rekoert | 2 min (USA, 2008) short

A conceptual short film examining
the certainty of life outside our space hub called Earth. What would
aliens look like? How would they communicate? Through dance, telepathy
or smell? What would be considered handsome? How would they perceive us?
Who would be more intelligent and how would we communicate? With use
of cellophane, aluminum foil and red lighting gel an alternate universe
was created. Is the main character trying to escape or simply giving
us a friendly hello? You decided!
