The Last Freak Show
24 mins (UK, 2007) Documentary
Produced and Directed by SIMON TATUM
for October Films
Jeffrey Marshall is a professional musician, born without arms or legs. His band, ‘SuperCool’, have just released their debut album. As a performer he often wonders whether people come to his gigs to listen to the music or to stare at the bizarre spectacle of a limbless man playing the bass guitar with his feet. In 'The Last Freak Show' we join him in Nashville as he promotes his album before heading out to New Jersey to explore his personal and cultural identity by becoming the star attraction in the last remaining freak show in America…
Filmmaker’s Comment:
When you’re with Jeffrey one of the first things you notice are the looks. Some are awkward sideways glances, some look everywhere but at Jeffrey and others stare unashamedly. The fact is everyone wants to look, feels compelled to look, but why?
Over the course of about 6 months we talked about making a film together. We wanted to make a film about disability that didn’t hide behind political correctness. Rather than pushing the same old message of ‘triumph-over-adversity’, we wanted to explore the darker areas of disability. Jeffrey has always been aware that when people come to his gigs voyeurism plays a big part. A lot of people don’t come for the music, but rather to stare. So how would it be different paying to see him do the same thing in a freak show tent? Can a disabled performer ever be seen as simply a performer?
Far from being a televised freak show, I set out to document one man’s journey as he explores his spiritual roots. The final film has been very well received and we’re very proud of it.

Jonathan Marten / 24 min (US, 2006) Erotic

Produced by Soular Films
Meg (Tanya Marten) is a fairly straight-laced attorney. When she expresses the desire to expand her rather limited sexual repertory, her more experienced friend, Kristin, suggests she rent a "How-To" video. What Meg finds is a video entitled BDSM: From Bottom To Top. After popping it into the machine, pen in hand, Meg suddenly finds herself face to face with the Dominatrix narrating the video (Cleo DiVaas). She is pulled into the video and becomes not only a voyeur but a participant as our Dom leads her on an Alice in Wonderland journey into the land of fetish. Meg journeys from bottom to top and submission to domination in her trip through this visually enticing film.

hree-part-harmony: part one: francis
Kelly Sebastian | 18 min (USA, 2006) Drama
Written by Kelly Sebastian
Production by Oh The Ladies Productions
It's Valentine's Day. Francis, who prefers to be called Frank, is not okay. Frank's obsession with his ex-girlfriend, has hit an
unhealthy peak. As the maddening worsens, he holds his breath and submerges into his day-to-day routine. Frank is trapped in a gray, mundane suburban world where the only sane vividness he can find is in his mindful
flight of avian creations. Until, on this Valentine's Day, as the pain amplifies, Frank finally gets himself a Valentine's date!
Filmmaker's Comment:
three-part-harmony is a feature film comprised of three separate shorts films that juxtaposed reveal three separate yet conjoining stories of life, love, loss experienced through three modern-day saints.

World Premiere
Turkish Sitcom
Director: Cary Anderson &Kahil Dotay | 7 min (USA, 2007) Experimental Comedy
Produced by Kahil Dotay. Turkish Sitcom is a strange, politically incorrect comedy that takes jabs at many things using the foreign perception of Americans and their Sitcoms. The over the top laughter where there should be none. The suddenly very serious moment where the audience gets a moral lecture (which, of course earns the show an Emmy)! A sarcastic take on the very unsuccessful ways other countries (such as Turkey) try to duplicate the American Sitcom format.
